If you’ve been around here for a while, you already know we’re obsessed with tallow for skin—and for good reason. It’s rich, deeply nourishing, and just makes sense for skincare. But not all tallow products are created equal, and we take a different approach than most.
Let's break it down.
“Tallow Balm Without Olive Oil”—Yeah, That’s Us
A lot of tallow balms out there use olive oil, but we don’t. Why? Because while olive oil might sound fancy, it’s actually not the best for your skin barrier—and it’s comedogenic (meaning it can clog pores).
Olive oil is rated around a 2 on the comedogenic scale, which means if you’re acne-prone or have sensitive skin, it can cause breakouts. Plus, it’s extremely high in oleic acid, which can weaken the skin barrier over time, leading to dryness, irritation, and moisture loss.
Now, before you ask—yes, tallow also contains oleic acid, but here’s the difference: balance.
• Tallow isn’t just oleic acid—it also has stearic acid and palmitic acid, which strengthen and protect the skin barrier.
• Olive oil is almost all oleic acid (up to 80%), meaning it lacks the structural fats needed to balance it out.
• Tallow’s fat composition is naturally aligned with our skin’s oils, making it ultra-nourishing and non-disruptive.
Instead of olive oil, we use golden jojoba oil—which is non-comedogenic (rated 1 or lower), the closest thing to your skin’s natural sebum, and absorbs beautifully without clogging pores. And trust us, we’ve got some incredible jojoba infusions coming soon.
So Why Is Everyone Obsessed with Olive Oil?
Great question. The short answer? Marketing, tradition, and the seed oil movement.
• Marketing hype: Olive oil has been pushed as a “miracle ingredient” for decades, especially in Mediterranean beauty routines. Brands love to highlight its food benefits—but just because something is edible doesn’t mean it’s great for skin.
• It’s everywhere: Olive oil is cheap, widely available, and easy for mass skincare brands to use.
• The seed oil movement confusion: Some people are ditching seed oils in their diet, which makes sense, but skincare is a different game. Olive oil gets a pass because it’s technically a fruit oil, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best for your face.
The truth? Jojoba oil is just better. It’s more stable, non-comedogenic, and skin-compatible. If more people understood skin science, olive oil wouldn’t even be in the conversation.
“What Tallow is Made From” (Hint: We’re Picky About It)
Tallow is pure, hand-rendered beef fat—but here’s the thing: quality matters.
A lot of brands won’t tell you where their tallow comes from. We will. We only use pasture-raised, ethically sourced tallow from small farms, including Wagyu. No factory-farmed nonsense. Just pure, nutrient-rich fat that your skin will love.
And if you’re wondering, no, tallow isn’t greasy or heavy—not when it’s rendered properly. It soaks into your skin beautifully, giving you deep hydration without clogging pores.
Why “Tallow for Skin” is the Real Deal
We don’t mess around with trendy skincare fads. Tallow has been used for centuries because it just works. It’s packed with:
• Stearic & palmitic acid – Deeply moisturizing, helps restore skin barrier
• Vitamins A, D, E, & K – Essential for skin health and regeneration
• Omega-rich fats – Hydrate and nourish without causing inflammation
Your skin recognizes tallow because it’s biocompatible—meaning it works with your skin’s natural oils instead of against them. That’s why so many people with dry, sensitive, or acne-prone skin swear by it.
The Bottom Line
We don’t do skincare like everyone else.
• No olive oil, because we care about your skin barrier.
• We only source the highest-quality tallow.
• Our jojoba infusions? You’re going to want to stick around for those.
Tallow skincare isn’t new—it’s just better than all the overhyped, chemical-laden junk out there.
So if you’re ready for real skincare that actually works, you’re in the right place.
